Saint Nicholas Grove is a nationally renowned tourist and recreation destination located just 3 kilometers southwest of the heroic town of Naoussa. It is a true earthly paradise in the heart of Imathia, offering a refreshing escape from environmental degradation and urban stress.
Covering an area of 60 acres, this beautiful natural landscape is nourished by the springs of the historic and highly valuable Arapitsa River. The centuries-old grove of plane trees, unique in Greece, impresses visitors throughout the year with its grandeur and immense size. Beneath their shade stretches a vast expanse of natural greenery, harmoniously coexisting with wild boxwood, linden trees, oak trees, and abundant flowing water, creating a rare symphony of colors and sounds.
Recognizing its ecological significance, the European Union funded the protection and enhancement of this remarkable area through the LIFE Programme. The project aimed not only to preserve and promote the grove but also to establish the foundations for sustainable environmental management, ensuring that the wide variety of activities and uses hosted within the area remain environmentally sustainable.
As a result of these efforts, the grove received the Special European Award in 1997, a significant distinction within the framework of the European Awards for Urban and Regional Planning.
Today, the grove welcomes approximately 1,000,000 visitors annually from all over Greece, who can enjoy the following facilities and activities:
The municipal hotel complex Vermion, with a capacity of 150 beds, featuring renovated bar-café facilities, a restaurant, and a conference center operating throughout the year.
Sports facilities including basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, as well as a municipal refreshment kiosk.
