Platanos is a traditional village in Nafpaktia, the seat of the Municipality of Platanos and takes its name from a huge plane tree that existed at the location of Megali Vrisi.
Under a densely planted forest of firs, dogwoods, cedars and apple trees at an altitude of 880 meters, Platanos overlooks Mount Xerovouni, whose slopes are covered with bushy holly and cedars and a few firs.
The village was inhabited in the 17th century and its inhabitants were farmers and livestock breeders. Viticulture, silkworm breeding and beekeeping also flourished. In the wider area it was known as ''the village of letters'' with teachers, doctors, etc.
The attraction of the village is its central square, surrounded by houses, which is adorned in its center by the church of Agios Nikolaos.
